EE named UK’s No.1 network for eighth year running

  • EE named UK’s no.1 network in independent tests by RootMetrics for eighth year running
  • EE’s UK-wide aggregate median download speed was over twice as fast as that of any other operator
  • EE takes top spot in RootMetrics Everyday 5G rating – a combination of widespread availability plus strong performances for speed and reliability

EE has today been named the UK’s number one network for the eighth year running, according to independent tests by RootMetrics. According to the results, EE continues to lead in UK-wide testing, winning or sharing six out of seven RootScore Awards – reliability, speed, data, call, text, and overall performance.

The achievement comes a week after EE announced its ambition to offer 5G anywhere in the UK by 2028, and deliver 4500 square miles of new rural coverage to offer high speed connectivity across even more of the UK.

In the RootMetrics testing, EE achieved the fastest aggregate median download speed of all operators in UK-wide testing at 58.8 Mbps, an increase from 43 Mbps in the last round of testing, and more than twice as fast as any other operator.

EE’s median download speeds were also the fastest in each of the 16 UK cities tested, reaching more than 70 Mbps in 14 of those cities and the only operator to exceed 100 Mbps.

According to the testing, EE delivered consistently fast speeds and excellent reliability, and it ranked top of the table for providing the single highest Everyday 5G availability of any operator in 1H 2021. The ideal Everyday 5G experience is marked by those times when an operator delivers a combination of both widespread availability plus strong performances for speed and reliability.

Marc Allera, CEO Consumer Division, BT, said: “Delivering the best mobile experience for our customers has never been more important. Being recognised as the UK’s best network for the eighth year running reflects our continued investment in keeping our customers connected to the things that matter most.”

RootMetrics carried out 635,917 tests across 16 cities in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
