Euronews made a compilation of some projects presented in the technological week of Aveiro, Aveiro Tech Week, which include three areas: mobility, environment and energy, and innovation that is centralized at Altice Labs.
At first glance, no one would know that the peaceful portuguese city of Aveiro, also known as the portuguese Venice, could be a living technology laboratory. The channels and moliceiros coexist with five square kilometers of digital test hub infrastructure and with three times more in terms of fiber optic links, reconfigurable radio units and an experimental 5G network with sensors; that is, it includes 16 linear kilometers of optical fibers and the involvement of 34 information and communication technology companies. It is a strong investment of 6.1 million euros with 4.9 million euros financing from community funds.
Aveiro Tech City Living Lab is one of the main axes of the Aveiro STEAM City project. This project will bring to the city of Aveiro a new technological revolution, with the adoption of 5G and IoT (Internet of Things) infrastructures and technologies. This project is part of a strong institutional partnership, led by the Aveiro City Council, and with the participation of Altice Labs and other entities in the city. For Paulo Pereira, director of Technology and Innovation Strategy at Altice Labs, there is huge potential in this project because "The normal use that we all make of the network does not present any type of challenge, however, what motivates us as Altice Labs is the realization of several use cases that can make sense for cities and the industry in the emergence of new business opportunities”.
In short, this live technology lab is a set of several components, from digital data assets, partners that implement the entire infrastructure, and partners that provide use cases, thus contributing to the availability of data for European projects who use this infrastructure to value the projects in which they are inserted.
