SpiderCloud Wireless announces industry’s first dual-mode CBRS system

Milpitas, California, October 11, 2016 – SpiderCloud Wireless, Inc., the leading provider of scalable small cell systems for enterprises and venues, is extending its LTE solution to the CBRS band. SpiderCloud is introducing the industry’s first enterprise small cell system that simultaneously offers LTE services on licensed spectrum and on the 3.5 GHz CBRS band.

SpiderCloud’s dual-mode (licensed and CBRS) system enables mobile operators and neutral host operators to build a footprint of CBRS small cells before CBRS capable connected devices are widely available. SpiderCloud’s dual-mode small cells will offer LTE service in the licensed band on day one, and CBRS radios can be turned on via software when the business case permits. Dual-mode drives the overall LTE handset ecosystem as it removes the uncertainty about the widespread availability of CBRS networks.

The CBRS network slice can be used either as a part of a single operator network, shared between multiple operators, or as a private enterprise network.

SpiderCloud’s Enterprise RAN architecture is uniquely suited for buildings where the capacity provided by CBRS is essential - offices, university campuses, hospitals, hotels and shopping centers that have thousands of LTE subscribers but limited LTE service.

“SpiderCloud’s dual-band, LTE-led approach provides service providers with valuable flexibility in addressing this market opportunity and recognizes the importance to the CBRS ecosystem of putting mobile operators at the forefront, along with neutral-host providers and enterprises,” said Ed Gubbins, Senior Analyst with Current Analysis. “Moreover, SpiderCloud’s strong, established focus on medium-large enterprises makes it a natural choice to help service providers penetrate the key enterprise verticals that could benefit most from CBRS."

SpiderCloud’s dual-mode system utilizes the Qualcomm® FSM chipset, enabling best-in-class power consumption and integration for enterprise-grade small cells.

“Supporting indoor LTE operation in shared (CBRS) and licensed spectrum is a major step towards overcoming coverage frustrations commonly faced by enterprises,” said Rahul Patel, SVP and GM, connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The Qualcomm FSM platform and SpiderCloud’s innovative CBRS system are paving the way for broad adoption of 3.5 GHz capabilities and a better end-user experience.”

SpiderCloud has completed interoperability testing with Federated Wireless’ SAS. Federated Wireless, a developer of cloud-based shared spectrum solutions to extend the access of wireless cellular networks, has led the development of the CBRS ecosystem.

“Working together we can provide for the much needed densification of networks that has become essential because of the exponential increase in wireless mobile data traffic, particularly in medium to large buildings,” said Ken Stewart, SVP Sales and Business Development, Federated Wireless. “Federated Wireless is helping SpiderCloud extend its small cell system to support licensed spectrum bands and the CBRS band simultaneously, providing a layer of flexibility and capacity unmatched by other solutions.”

“CBRS spectrum offers tremendous opportunities for reducing the cost of mobile data and business model innovation,” said Amit Jain, VP, Product Management and Marketing, SpiderCloud. “SpiderCloud’s CBRS solution leverages our market-proven LTE small cell technology that is deployed by several Tier-1 operators and simplifies the adoption of CBRS”.

The small cells are based on SpiderCloud’s Enterprise RAN (E-RAN) architecture where one Services Node controls a dense network of self-organizing LTE small cells that are capable of delivering coverage and capacity in indoor locations as large as 1.5 million square feet. SpiderCloud’s CBRS products will be ready for trials in Q1’2017 and will be commercially available in 2H’2017.

SpiderCloud is hosting a by-invitation-only briefing for Wall Street financial and technology analysts on Thursday October 13th in New York City. This briefing will include a discussion of the positive impact of CBRS on the indoor RAN market and SpiderCloud’s viewpoint on the competitive landscape.
