With a finite about of spectrum, telcos have to use it more effectively, which reduces the size of the cell, making small cells inevitable. The challenges are for The Cloud are three p's: poles, power and pipe. The need to communicate between radio sites with low latency, leading to the use of dark fibre or near line of site links, is a massive challenge for operators.
