There are a multitude of business cases for carrier wi-fi; from network cost savings to generating new revenues and improving customer care. Some telcos are looking at how to leverage it as a cheaper roaming alternative, whilst others are seeing if voice over wi-fi calling can be used to poach customers from other networks.
 
Major venues are also becoming targets of telcos with a land grab underway - who can get there first, secure exclusive rights and control access to other telcos? There's also the use of big data analytics in retail environments, adding to the list of innovative business models.
