If there is currently a lot of hype surrounding SDN and NFV then it certainly isn't being driven by wireless network infrastructure specialist, Radisys. According to Radisys' Director of Product Marketing, Karl Wale, there are still a lot of issues to be solved and standards to be set before SDN and NFV completely take over. Karl thinks even the low hanging fruit, such as IMS virtualisation, is 5 to 10 years' distant. Control plane elements first and the data plane maybe in time... or maybe never, he says.
