CableLabs is the research arm of the cable TV industry and part of its remit is to act as a trusted ombudsman and third-party arbitrator examining new technologies and determining which of them are best in terms of pure science. The organisation has no political agenda or affiliations and is not concerned with the working of the market and is not beholden to any particular manufacturer or vendor. A current CableLabs focus, via its Kyrio subsidiary is on cloud, SDN and NFV interoperability in a multi-vendor, multi-network, multi-service environment and the company has an interoperability lab available to all network operators and equipment vendors.
