China Mobile providing live TD-LTE coverage at Mobile Asia Expo using Alcatel-Lucent’s lightRadio™ Metro Radio

Shanghai, June 26, 2013 - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and China Mobile will provide visitors to this year’s Mobile Asia Expo with high-speed mobile broadband using lightRadio™ Metro Radio (Metro Radio) small cells.

Metro Radios is a small wireless access point that can be deployed by mobile operators in densely populated areas, such as the Mobile Asia Expo conference center, to provide additional coverage and capacity in areas where there is high demand for mobile data.

The Metro Radios were co-developed by Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile, and announced during Mobile World Congress 2013. They are now being deployed in Nanjing by China Mobile as part of the TD-LTE deployment across China.

Key Facts:

China Mobile is deploying the TD-LTE based lightRadio Metro Radios to help meet the ever-increasing demand for mobile Internet, video and data in the world’s largest smartphone market. China Mobile has more than 730 million subscribers, which accounts for more than 60% of the total mobile subscriptions in the country.

Alcatel-Lucent’s lightRadio Metro Radio will provide mobile broadband coverage to China Mobile subscribers in Pavilion One at Mobile Asia Expo 2013 being held in Shanghai June 26-28.

TD-LTE network at Mobile Asia Expo 2013 demonstrates high quality indoor and outdoor wireless coverage, which is helping China Mobile significantly improve mobile broadband service to their customers in an extremely cost-efficient way in environments including residences, public hotspots, shopping malls, and stadiums.

World’s first call over lightRadio Metro Radio in a live TD-LTE network was conducted in June 2013 in Nanjing with an average speed of 62Mbps.

China Mobile’s initial TD-LTE deployment covered 13 cities in China, including Shanghai, Nanjing and Qingdao - three of the world’s most populated and fastest growing. Phase II of the deployment will span 100 cities across China and begins in the second half of 2013. Metro Radios will be an essential technology for the commercial rollout of TD-LTE in China.
