Susana Sabater, Manager, Cloud Network Designs, Vodafone Group

Vodafone is undertaking a huge network transformation based on NFV and work from the TM Forum, IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) and ONF (Open Networking Foundation), Susana tells Guy Daniels. But Vodafone is no newcomer to virtualisation and its experience so far with the ETSI version has not been “all good”, she says. There have been issues over pricing, while “Onboarding” VNFs has sometimes taken months. But she sees that NFV and 5G (obviously a looming concern for Vodafone) as complementary initiatives. “We could deploy 5G without NFV but if we want all the benefits of 5G we need to have virtualisation.” she says.  See news story Vodafone shows its 5G credentials and joins the party
