Pierre Lynch, Lead Technologist, Product Management, Ixia

Ixia has its roots in testing, so testing NFV was a natural development for the company although it had to virtualise itself to do it, Pierre tells Guy Daniels. At first the problems that popped up with NFV were around the ‘can general purpose computers perform fast enough?’.meme. Now the problem usually concerns ‘onboarding software’. As to whether NFV will be an integral part of 5G, it’s a big yes. In order to adopt the concepts being talked about in the 5G community NFV and things like network slicing, will be crucial. “It’s going to be a collaborative effort - 5G will request requirements and they’ll be met,” he says.
