ZTE’s carrier-grade vBRAS performs beyond expectations in China Mobile’s CU separation Phase 3 test

February 13, 2018, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that its carrier-grade vBRAS has successfully completed CU (Control Plane and User Plane) separation Phase 3 test held by China Mobile after it completed the Phase 1 and Phase 2 tests earlier.
The test this time covered nine items, specifically, CU separated systems, basic BRAS access functions, Change of Authorization (COA), Quality of Service (QoS), Carrier Grade NAT (CGN), multicast, reliability, performance, and security.
During the test, ZTE’s vBRAS performed well in many items such as functions, performance, and reliability, which went far beyond the customer’s expectations. It exceeded the baseline indicators defined by China Mobile in single system session capacity, user access rate, and user table item distributing rate.
It supports the complete protection mechanism which is composed of CP (Control Plane) cross-DC 1+1/1:1 hot standby, UP (User Plane) 1:1/1+1 hot standby, and N:1 warm standby to implement millisecond level protection. Users between UPs can be flexibly scheduled to solve the traffic tides, and all user IP addresses are distributed by CP in a unified way, which can save the address resource by 1/3. The integrated CGN supports the integrated hot standby of BRAS and CGN, which can well meet the high reliability requirement of the private line users.
As a critical partner of China Mobile in vBRAS, ZTE has been dedicated to providing innovative and advanced vBRAS solutions for China Mobile. Working together with China Mobile Research Institute, ZTE has solved many difficulties in Metro Area Network (MAN) Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) on NovoNet architecture.
By introducing self-developed distributed cloudified database, ZTE vBRAS overcomes the performance bottlenecks that common vBRAS cannot get through. It improves the system session capacity, user accessing rate and table item distributing rate by several times, and reaches ten million sessions, 10,000 accessing rate and table distributing rate respectively.
In addition, its distributed database uses primary/standby realtime synchronization for the purpose of solving data synchronization and standby of huge quantity of users and implementing cross-DC hot standby for CP. When vBRAS CP fails in a single DC, users can be smoothly migrated to the standby CP without need of re-accessing, which thereby protects user services from being affected.
To date, ZTE has completed commercial trials of vBRAS based on CU separation in many provinces and regions such as Guangdong and Chongqing. The Phase 3 test this time further provides reliable practice basis for future large-scale vBRAS commercial deployments by China Mobile.
