Leading Netherlands ISP Deploys Integrated Muxponder and Open Optical Line System to Support Scalable, Power-Efficient 100G Data Center Interconnect (DCI)

MUNICH, Germany, 30 January 2018 – Coriant, a leading supplier of packet optical, IP, and SDN solutions to Tier 1 global service providers and web-scale Internet operators, today announced that WorldStream, a leading Internet Service Provider in the Netherlands, has deployed the Coriant Groove™ G30 Network Disaggregation Platform to enhance resiliency of its backbone network and scale transmission capacity to 100G per wavelength. WorldStream selected the ultra-high capacity, power-efficient Groove G30 solution to meet rapidly growing demand for Internet services and support resilient connectivity for Data Center Interconnect (DCI) and peering capacity. The Groove G30 is a unique DCI offering that provides end-to-end connectivity with a single solution for both muxponder and Open Optical Line system applications.

WorldStream offers a wide variety of ISP and data center hosting services, as well as global connectivity. The new Coriant Groove-powered network will support 100G per wavelength of capacity using best-in-class coherent optical transmission technology, with initial deployment delivering 18*100G of capacity respectively on geographically-dispersed redundant fiber routes connecting WorldStream data center facilities.

"In this past year alone we saw a dramatic rise in customer Internet traffic that drove a need to upgrade our network infrastructure to higher speed transmission," said Tim Vollebregt, Network Architect at WorldStream. "After evaluating our options, we selected the Coriant Groove G30 solution for its ability to cost-efficiently meet our escalating capacity demands with a best-in-class plug-and-play architecture purpose-built for pay-as-you-grow scalability and configuration flexibility. As we increasingly focus on environmentally-friendly, carrier neutral colocation services, the industry-leading power efficiencies of the Groove G30 also proved highly compelling."

The award-winning Coriant Groove™ G30 is an innovative and highly compact 1RU modular transport solution for ISP, cloud, data center, and IXP networks that can be equipped as a muxponder terminal solution and as an Open Line System (OLS) solution. Recognized for its industry-leading line system density, the Groove solution supports up to 96 channels in 1RU with full WDM terminal functionality, delivering 3X the density over comparable solutions and enabling significant OpEx savings via footprint and power efficiencies.

"As we've learned by working closely with service providers like WorldStream, it is not just about delivering scalable and cost-efficient transport, but also ensuring uninterrupted, high quality connectivity as more and more of their customers’ business critical data traffic rides on the network," said Ronald Van der Kraan, Managing Director of Europe, Coriant.
