Accenture video solution selected as strategic over-the-top platform by BT TV

Via Accenture Newsroom

Sep 7, 2016

LONDON; Sept. 7, 2016 – BT TV has selected the Accenture Video Solution (AVS) platform to support its current and future BT TV offerings, including BT Sport. The Accenture-developed software platform provides numerous services that support both live streaming and video-on-demand, delivering a high-quality user experience across multiple devices including smartphones, tablets and computers. Once deployed, the platform will enable BT TV to provide personalized experiences at scale, reaching a broad audience with numerous video offerings.

“Our customers want access to world class video at any time and on any device they choose, so it is critical that we have a platform in place that keeps them engaged,” said Greg McCall, managing director of television and content at BT. “With AVS, we have a strategic OTT platform able to rapidly develop and bring new services to market. Importantly, we can scale the platform when we need to, making sure the audience has a seamless viewing experience.”

The latest version of AVS includes a number of features that will boost BT TV’s strategy:

  • A full micro-services-based architecture, that uses software segmentation to enable an accelerated delivery of new video services and features through automated DevOps pipelines

  • Automatic and flexible scalability mechanisms on public and private clouds that optimize infrastructure resource costs according to the real-time number of users accessing the service and watching video

  • Accenture Video Analytics which provide rich and comprehensive real-time reporting, segmentation and statistical analytics that enable the activation of real-time capabilities (e.g., direct marketing, service centres, and enhanced product functionality) based on user profile attributes including device, QoE, granular discovery and consumption interactions, time of day, and location

“We have enjoyed supporting BT’s journey over the past few years as they have grown their portfolio and entered new markets,” commented Sef Tuma, chief strategy officer, Accenture Digital Video. “To be at the heart of the BT TV architecture is exciting for us, and we look forward to helping them continue to deliver some of the world’s most exciting services and programming in this next phase of our relationship.”

Accenture Video Solution is currently being used by over 60 million users globally.
