Panel Discussion

The motion was CARRIED at the event, but do you agree? Cast your vote above in our audience poll.

This debate fell into two parts with the first representing where the CSPs are today on their individual cloud journeys, followed by four very different suppliers and how they are adjusting their own offerings to meet those CSP needs. View the CSP perspective here.

Avishai Sharlin, General Manager & Head of Amdocs Technology, Amdocs Global Services - the cloud journey is like observing children learning to walk – everyone develops at a different pace but everyone gets there in the end. It’s a question of providing a helping hand where appropriate.
David Gordon, Senior Director, Cisco – Lots of the processes inside the SP world are against the optimising of the cloud opportunity. Players are at all stages of the spectrum: Rakuten at the cloud native green end of the spectrum and some incumbent, former PTTs struggling to kick anything off struggling with old processes and new shiny toys at the other.
Brian Aherne, Director Communications Infrastructure & General Manager, Intel Corporation – Today, at the dawn of the 5G era, you can get cloud for the telco. It is available from many suppliers. The real question is who is ready for that technology to transform their operations and services?
Martin Taylor, CTO, Metaswitch – In some ways NFV lacked ambition. It was inspired by the IT world and what it was doing rather than radically rethinking the telecoms world. We have got to overcome this discontinuity of trying to get to cloud native from where we are today!
