WIDE project: KDDI introduces router using open-source software with up to 3.2T packet transmission

Via KDDI

Jun 11, 2019

The WIDE Project (Headquarters: Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, Representative: Prof. Hiroshi Esaki, The University of Tokyo Graduate School) is adopting a router developed by KDDI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chiyoda, Tokyo, President: Makoto Takahashi) which runs open-source software, and will be used with the networks operated and managed by the WIDE Project.

The networks operated and managed by the WIDE Project have a diverse multi-vendor structure. In addition to academic research applications, they also handle general Internet traffic flow.

At KDDI, our work includes optimizing the efficiency of the hardware that makes up IP network structure in terms of power, space and cost, while also providing user interface extensions. For this project, we are initiating tests in June 2019 to verify the practical utility and interoperability of these routers when put to use in the actual service environment.

The WIDE Project launched a router development working group in January 2019, of which KDDI serves as a key member, helping ensure the achievement of high-speed, high-quality IP networks.

Our ongoing efforts with the WIDE Project will include contributions to the achievement of high-capacity, high-quality IP networks.
