Tokyo ― Today, KDDI is announcing that it completed a final phase of commercial testing for TIP DDBR [1] as the internet gateway peering routers ahead of everybody else in the world on March 18, 2022. The DDBR was proven that it had enough capability to be deployed in KDDI production networks.

KDDI became a member of the TIP to promote the development of open and disaggregated technologies for telecommunication systems. As the chair of the Disaggregated Open Routers (DOR) subgroup in the TIP Open Optical Packet Transport (OOPT) project group, KDDI has been active in technical development of carrier-grade white box routers. As a result, KDDI completed the DDBR technical requirements document in May 2021 [2] and TIP announced the DDBR compliant vendors in March 2022 [3].

Traditional routers comprise software, hardware and semiconductor chips chosen by one vendor. On the other hand, the DDBR comprises software from DriveNets (Ra'anana, Israel, CEO: Ido Susan), hardware (40×100GE line card systems) from Delta Electronics, Inc. (Taipei, Taiwan; CEO: Ping Zheng), and the newest merchant silicon (Jericho2) from Broadcom, Inc. (California, USA; CEO: Hock Tan). It enables service providers to choose an appropriate combination of software, hardware and semiconductor chips depending on use cases in their production networks. In the commercial testing, the DDBR was proven that it had enough capability to fulfill software/hardware features, scalability and multi-vendor interoperability in KDDI production networks.

KDDI is the leader in the global DOR initiative and in carrier-grade white box router deployment.
