Abstract

The journey to Industry 4.0 accelerated over the past year as industrial organizations recognized the need to do more with less. Despite residual challenges, including disrupted supply chains and worker shortages, factory digitization presents a massive opportunity for manufacturers to optimize efficiency and even surpass previous years’ KPIs. Technologies like artificial intelligence, real-time data analytics and the Industrial Internet of Things open a vast number of application opportunities to lower maintenance costs, reduce disruptions, improve quality control and more. When these solutions are based upon standards with open architectures, it further lowers the barrier to entry for small and mid-sized organizations, while making it easier for large organizations to scale across many facilities. Finally, as the promise of on-premise 5G networks becomes a reality, manufactures are presented with even more paths on the journey to Industry 4.0.

Claudio Ambra

CTO, Exor International SpA

From the beginning of the eighties when EXOR International was still a small innovative startup, Claudio Ambra worked in the Research and Development Department. His role was to carry out several projects of microprocessor and FPGA systems as a developer for Industrial controllers and Embedded Systems. More than 20 years' experience in Hardware, Firmware development as Team Project Leader for Industrial Control systems and products.

In 2009 he became the CTO of Exor International, and from 2015 he joined the Board of Directors of Exor International.

His remit is to lead the R&D teams in the design of innovative Exor International's Digital Automation platform for Industry 4.0.


Christine Boles

Vice President, Internet of Things Group and General Manager, Intel’s Industrial Solutions Division

Christine Boles is a vice president in the Internet of Things Group (IOTG) and general manager of Intel’s Industrial Solutions Division. Her organization is responsible for Intel’s Industrial IOT business within the manufacturing, energy, logistics and commercial building segments, including the product and ecosystem strategies for this rapidly evolving space. Boles joined Intel in 1992 as an application engineer for 16-bit microcontrollers. For over 25 years, she has led development, delivery and the enabling of customers and ecosystems for Intel based solutions in multiple leadership roles. These solutions span a broad range of embedded and internet of things applications across many industries, including communications, storage, retail, imaging, and commercial buildings.


Kiel Ronning

Industry 4.0 Lead, John Deere

Kiel Ronning is the Manager of Manufacturing Controls & Analytics at John Deere. Holding the role as the Industry 4.0 Lead for John Deere within the Enterprise Manufacturing Technology group. In this role, Kiel is focused on establishing the organization’s factory of the future vision and developing the strategy on how to realize this vision. Kiel has held numerous roles within John Deere within manufacturing engineering, engineering leadership and operational technology leadership.
