Orange awarded the contract for the French State’s first public cloud platform

Paris, Monday, July 27, 2015

The French State has entrusted Orange Business Services with the implementation, management and operation of its public cloud for a two-year renewable period.

Orange will supply the Ministries and certain public institutions with IT services on demand (computing and storage power), in particular for their agile software development, Open Data and big data projects. The services offered will be billed by use, giving the State more flexibility for its IT projects, as well as greater control of its costs by paying only for what it actually uses.

For this project, Orange is relying on the infrastructure and expertise of Cloudwatt in the field of Open Source Cloud solutions (OpenStack). Orange thereby demonstrates the relevance of integrating Cloudwatt’s expertise into its own range of offers, particularly in the public cloud sector.

The public cloud platform is hosted in Orange’s data centers in France, and will be connected to the Interdepartmental State Network (RIE), of which Orange is one of the main suppliers.

With this new contract, Orange Business Services is strengthening its role as a partner in the State’s digital transformation in France.
