Oracle and SAP continue to collaborate to help ensure the latest Oracle Database technologies are available for use by customers using SAP applications

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jul 23, 2015

Oracle today announced Oracle Database In-Memory has been certified by SAP for use with SAP® solutions based on the SAP NetWeaver® 7.x technology platform. Customers can use SAP applications together with Oracle Database In-Memory to perform real-time data analytics together with real-time transaction processing on their existing applications, by adding SAP tables into the in-memory column store. This continues the longstanding collaboration between Oracle and SAP to meet the demand from customers to run SAP software together with Oracle technologies. Earlier this year, SAP certified Oracle Database 12 c , Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5-2, and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud X5-2 for use with SAP solutions.

Oracle Database In-Memory was released by Oracle a year ago. In its first year, sales have been nearly triple that of all new Oracle Database 11 g options combined during their first year. Customers are delighted by the ease of adoption and potential performance gains delivered by Oracle Database In-Memory.

“Lion Corporation’s business-critical Financial Management systems run SAP applications on Oracle Database and it has proven to be a solid solution that has helped us grow our business and become more efficient,” said Masatoshi Utsunomiya, Director of the Integrated Systems Division, Lion Corporation. “With SAP’s certification of Oracle Database In-Memory, we are excited to explore how the real-time speed and application transparency of Oracle Database In-Memory can further evolve us towards a real-time enterprise.”

“Oracle Database is the #1 database among SAP customers around the globe, and SAP’s certification of Oracle Database In-Memory, coupled with our extended reseller and support agreements, is indicative of its importance,” said Andy Mendelsohn, executive vice president, Database Server Technologies, Oracle. “Customers can be assured that their SAP applications running on Oracle Database and Oracle Engineered Systems are fully supported. Oracle Database In-Memory provides mutual customers with an enterprise-grade, in-memory solution from Oracle.”

“The fact that SAP certified Oracle Database 12 c in March 2015 and Oracle Database In-Memory just three months later is a testament to the compatibility of Oracle Database In-Memory with existing applications," said Carl Olofson, research vice president, Application Development and Deployment, IDC. “This is a big win for customers who will now have a choice of using the latest technology from Oracle with existing SAP applications.”

Oracle Database In-Memory implements a unique dual-format architecture that delivers fast analytics together with high-performance OLTP. It processes data at a rate of billions of rows per second rather than millions and allows analytics to run directly in OLTP databases, further reducing delays and improving accuracy. Oracle Database In-Memory is easily deployed under any existing application that is compatible with the Oracle Database. No application changes are required. Oracle Database In-Memory uses Oracle’s mature scale-up, scale-out, and storage tiering technologies to cost effectively run any size workload. Oracle Database In-Memory inherits all the proven functionality of Oracle Database 12 c , including the sophisticated and robust high availability solutions embodied in Oracle’s popular Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA).
