Huawei and Institute of Technology in České Budějovice agree to collaborate for ICT Research

Memorandum signed in Beijing during visit of Czech Prime Minister

[Beijing, China, June 16, 2016]Huawei and the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice (ITB) will cooperate on research into information and communication technologies (ICT), smart cities, information systems, cybernetics, robotics and education of future talent. This cooperation for joint innovation and technology research development is set out in the memorandum between Huawei and ITB, which was signed today in Beijing by the representatives of both parties in the presence of Czech Prime Minister, Bohuslav Sobotka, during his visit to China.

"Information and communication technologies are developing at a dizzying pace, and accelerating further. Czech universities need strong partners such as Huawei for applied research in order to keep pace with the developed world." said Bohuslav Sobotka, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. "Innovation and the usage of modern ICT technologies is the alpha and omega of cultural, social and economic success of our country in the near future."

"With the help of cutting edge technology we are building a better connected world. While research is a key priority and partnering with top universities is an integral part of our approach to contribute to technology research globally and mutually beneficial. And of course, education of future talent including university students is an essential part of such cooperation."Said Radoslaw Kedzia, CEO of Huawei Czech Republic, adding: "In the very near future, everything, everyone and everywhere will be connected. The technology on which we are working on with ITB will contribute to that bridge between the physical and digital worlds."

We are ready to share the latest knowledge about digital and communication technologies for mutual benefit with companies and to contribute to progress. Cooperating with Huawei we will make this happen.” stated doc. Marek Vochozka, rector of ITB in České Budějovice.

ITB is one of the Czech Republic’s leading universities. The Institute was awarded the prestigious ECTS Label by the European Commission for the period 2011-2014 and won an award in this year's Czech 100 Best competition for the 3rd year in the departmental category Health – Education – Humanity.

Cooperation between Huawei and ITB České Budějovice will include research, consulting and analytical activities, support for students and organizing of internships, laboratory equipment and training centre support and mutual consultation in the field of ICT, information strategies, systems, data processing, robotics, cybernetics and information security. Huawei’s support for student training and studies in China is one of its global flagship programs - “Seeds for the future” - which is been undertaken in more than 170 countries around the world.

Huawei invests heavily in R&D and is one of the world leaders in this field. As of December 31, 2015, the company employs approximately 79,000 people in R&D, (45% of all its employees) in 16 research and development institutes and centres around the world. It already set up 36 joint innovation centers with global innovators. Huawei currently has a total of 50,377 patents granted.
