ECI selected to build new Belwue Metro and regional networks in Germany

Via ECI Resources

Nov 23, 2016

Petach Tikva, Israel, November 22, 2016 - ECI, a global provider of ELASTIC Network® solutions, in cooperation with BelWü, the service provider supplying the network for education and research institutions (NREN) as well as the backbone operator for a wide variety of regional services such as Cloud infrastructures, High Performance Computing and large scale data facilities of the southern German federal state Baden-Württemberg, announced today that ECI’s Apollo optical family was chosen to upgrade BelWü’s currently static DWDM metro and regional networks. ECI will provide a state-of-the- art, optical network with dynamic network capabilities.

“ECI is a name that we trust, both in terms of adaptable solutions and service. We needed a flexible network that could manage changing traffic patterns, multiple services and increasing bandwidth requirements. We also wanted a network that could, eventually, be easily connected to other NREN entities,” said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Wesner from BelWü. “ECI’s solution provided the strongest technical capabilities in an economical manner. Moreover, ECI’s ELASTIC strategy ensures that our investment is assured and will enable us to further adapt our network to future needs.”

“ECI has been very successful in the NREN market. We’ve won three new customers in the past couple of months. Today’s news, however, is particularly significant as it is an important step forward for ECI as it continues to establish a leadership position in cloud networking,” said Volker Lempert, Head of Cloud Networking EMEA at ECI. “We are pleased that BelWü chose ECI’s Apollo high speed, optical transport solution. The series is rich with dynamic capabilities: flexible ROADMs, colorless, directionless, contentionless and with flex-grid. We are certain that the solution will successfully outperform expectations.”

ECI’s Apollo platform provides state-of-the-art, transparent and flexible DWDM transport with integrated packet services. Apollo combines high performance, low latency, OTN transport and switching, with software configurable optical routing, for maximum efficiency. Apollo’s adaptive rate networking ranges from 100 Gbps to 400 Gbps. This coupled with WSON restoration ensures flexibility and service ability for years to come. All ECI solutions are easily managed under the industry-leading, LightSOFT® NMS which enables customers full FCAPS for physical, SDH/SONET, MPLS, Ethernet, and optical layers. The LightSOFT NMS is an integral part of ECI’s SmartLIGHTTM product portfolio.
