ECI introduces new 'Lambda on Demand' capabilities to its LightAPPS™ family of SDN applications

ECI, in cooperation with CESNET, will demo the Lambda on Demand app at the TNC16 Networking Conference in Prague, June 12-16, 2016

Petach Tikva, Israel, June 8, 2016 --- ECI, a global provider of ELASTIC Network® solutions for service providers, utilities, data center operators and national research and education networks (NREN), announced today the enhancement of its LightCONNECT™ bandwidth on demand app with ‘Lambda on Demand’ capabilities. This is another, in a growing line of SDN applications and enhanced networking capabilities, which the company has launched over the last year under the umbrella of LightAPPS. Lambda on demand is designed to provide optical networks with ‘on demand’ capabilities.

ECI’s LightCONNECT app provides bandwidth on demand for dynamic services and bursty applications. LightCONNECT enables customers to allocate the required bandwidth ‘on demand’, as needs change, but without long provisioning cycles. Lambda on demand affords the same deliverables to optical networks like ECI’s Apollo, by allocating the necessary number of wavelengths at the designated time. This will shorten service turn up time on both packet and optical networks.

“At ECI, it’s all about providing services that can be customized to afford networks the flexibility to respond to real-time needs easily, seamlessly and cost effectively. LightCONNECT’s bandwidth on demand, and now lambda on demand, can make the difference between weeks and minutes in terms of turn up time. ECI continues to enhance capabilities that will increase network visibility, automation, and better enable the rapid introduction of new services,” said Gali Malkiel, Head of Applications and Software Line of Business at ECI.

LightCONNECT means that it is no longer necessary to rely on over-provisioning. In addition, LightCONNECT's agile APIs support both OTN and Lambda to dynamically create, modify, and delete optical network connections and bandwidth allocations as necessary to reduce TTM of new service introduction.

At TNC 2016, ECI’s lambda on demand as well as its 400G capabilities will be demonstrated in conjunction with CESNET at booth #1. Also, please visit the ECI booth #20, for a live demonstration of ECI’s optical SDN solutions.
