DFAT selects NEC Australia for ICT Global Support Centre Services

Via NEC News room

Aug 17, 2015

Melbourne and Tokyo, 17 August 2015 - NEC Australia, along with NEC Corporation, today announced that it has won the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) ICT Global Support Centre Services contract.

Under the four-year contract, NEC Australia will assume responsibility for DFAT's Global Support Centre Services supporting 12,000 users at 160 sites globally.

DFAT is responsible for developing and implementing foreign, trade and development policy. The department maintains the Government's global classified communications system and delivers ICT services to over 51 agencies in Australia.

Through the Global Support Centre at DFAT, NEC Australia will become the first point of contact for ICT services for the department. At the same time, NEC Australia will undertake a body of work to improve DFAT's ICT service capabilities through the delivery of a new IT service management tool and the introduction of industry standard service delivery processes.

"NEC Australia is committed in this project to improving the end user experience of department and agency users and we are confident that we can deliver the required outcomes," said Mike Barber, Executive Director of IT Services at NEC Australia.

NEC has broad experience in transitioning and steering managed ICT services for many large Australian enterprise and government clients, including the South Australian Government, Northern Territory Government, the Department of Defence and Department of Parliamentary Services.

"Our record for service excellence and close cooperation with existing partners in Federal and State Governments is evident within our long list of existing customers," said Tetsuro Akagi, Managing Director, NEC Australia.

NEC Australia already manages more than 4,800 servers, 75,000 desktops and over 500,000 end-points at 1,340 locations across Australia.

"In order to maintain this leading reputation, we continue our investment in advanced systems and processes. These investments build on our existing capability and experience to ensure we can deliver results," Mr Akagi added.

NEC and its partners are aligned to work in partnership with DFAT, taking a single-minded approach towards meeting the department's requirements.

Mike Barber stated that "NEC is investing and committing our best resources to make this partnership a success."
