Communique: ITU Radiocommunication seminar supports space and terrestrial services development in the Americas

San Salvador Forum examines future challenges and opportunities

Geneva, 31 July 2015 – The Regional Radiocommunication Seminar 2015 for the Americas Region (RRS-15 Americas) concluded today in San Salvador, El Salvador. The seminar was organized by ITU in cooperation with the International Regional Organization Comision Tecnica Regional de Telecomunicaciones ( COMTELCA ) and hosted by the Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones of El Salvador ( SIGET ). The first two days of the seminar, which opened on 27 July, covered general concepts related to spectrum management as well as procedures associated with the recording of frequency assignments for satellites and terrestrial stations in the Master International Frequency Register (MIFR).

The regional workshops, which focused on terrestrial services and satellite coordination in the following two days, provided hands-on experience with ITU notification procedures as well as with the software and electronic publications that are made available by the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau to Member States and to ITU-R Sector Members.

The seminar concluded on Friday, 31 July, with a Forum discussion on “WRC15: Challenges and opportunities for the Region".

“The Regional Radiocommunication Seminar in San Salvador marks an important step in preparing for future decisions related to spectrum management and coordinating satellite assignments in the region,” said ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao. “The seminar and related workshops have contributed meaningfully towards the dissemination of information and capacity-building that will assist in the development of regional contributions to the forthcoming World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15), which will be held in Geneva, 2-27 November 2015.”

Over 100 participants from 14 countries attended the seminar.
