Brocade Announces the Ruckus ZoneFlex C110 802.11ac Wave 2 Access Point for Hospitality and Multiple-dwelling Unit Market

New AP Enables Organizations to Deploy High-speed Wi-Fi Over Existing Coaxial Cable Infrastructure

SAN JOSE, Calif.—December 7, 2016Ruckus Wireless, a part of Brocade, today introduced the Ruckus ZoneFlex™ C110 access point (AP), which features 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi and incorporates a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and an Ethernet switch. The C110 AP uses coaxial cable for network connectivity, enabling facilities such as hotels and multiple-dwelling units (MDUs) that lack Category 5 Ethernet cable infrastructure to easily deploy reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi.

“Today, business travelers expect high speed Wi-Fi wherever they stay. In the U.S., the majority of hotel rooms have only coax and phone wire to each guest room,” said Devang Bhatt, enterprise product marketing manager at Ruckus Wireless. “Older hotels and MDUs that don’t have Ethernet cabling face significant economic barriers to deploying wireless internet access due to high costs of installing Ethernet cabling. The C110 AP allows hospitality and MDU property managers to easily provide wireless internet access and services such as IPTV and VoIP over the existing coax infrastructure.”

What:

The low profile wall-plate form factor of the C110 AP enables discreet installation over a standard electrical junction box; it can be managed by Ruckus SmartZone™ or ZoneDirector™ controllers.

Additional features include:

  • Integrated DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem—Enables property owners to use existing coax infrastructure for network connectivity, thereby avoiding the requirement to install Cat5 infrastructure before Wi-Fi and other IP-based services can be offered.
  • 802.11ac 2x2:2 Wave 2 MU-MIMO—MU-MIMO improves network performance by more efficiently utilizing airtime, benefiting both Wave 2 and non-Wave 2 clients. 802.11ac Wave 2 supports data rates up to 1.3 Gbps.
  • Converged IP services—Multiple SSIDs, port-based VLANs and robust authentication options make the C110 AP ideal for supporting concurrent IP-based services such as VoIP, IPTV and high-speed in-room device connectivity over both wired (over Ethernet) and wireless.
  • Stand-alone or centrally managed—The C110 can be deployed in stand-alone mode or centrally managed by the ZoneDirector or SmartZone controllers, offering benefits such as guest access, hotspot services, DPSK security and AP load balancing.
