Alstrom Transport signs with BT for global network

BT today announced it has been selected by Alstom Transport, one of the world’s leading providers of transport systems and solutions, to consolidate and optimise its global network infrastructure. Through this contract, BT will support the operations of Alstom Transport in more than 300 locations across 59 countries.

Under the terms of the agreement, BT will provide end to end network services from its BT Connect portfolio, including wide and local area networks, internet access, integration and maintenance services. Alstom Transport’s network will be managed and supported via BT’s Network Operating Centre in Paris.

The contract announced today supports Alstom Transport’s objective to create a single globally managed network, which will form the bedrock of its ICT infrastructure and services going forward.

Christine Heckmann, CIO of Alstom Transport said: “At Alstom Transport, we have great ambitions for developing our business internationally and we know that our ICT infrastructure is a key element for our future success. We need to innovate and implement high performance services for our customers, employees and partners and have now found a global partner with the vision, capabilities and creativity required to deliver that. We are looking forward to our journey with BT.”

Alstom Transport will also benefit from BT’s new Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute service. This service enables direct access to Microsoft applications by providing customers with the ability to connect directly to the Microsoft Office 365 productivity suite, ensuring high performance in a secure environment. Enabling customers to access applications directly in the cloud, whether it is a private or public cloud environment is a key element of BT’s Cloud of Clouds technology vision.

Corrado Sciolla, President of Europe & Global Telecom Markets at BT said « We feel very proud that Alstom Transport has entrusted BT with the management of its global network and with the integration of key cloud services. We understand how critical it is for companies like Alstom Transport to combine a robust global technology infrastructure with strong local capabilities to serve customers wherever they may be. Alstom Transport’s global network is set to become the foundation for highly productive collaboration between employees all over the world and the key to easily access all the business applications and services that support their growth ambitions.»
