ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 races past major market momentum milestone and paves the way for 100G

With next-generation services, support for NG-PON2, XGS-PON, Super-Vectoring and G.fast underscores why more carriers access higher-value services with ADTRAN’s TA5000

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2016-- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation open networking solutions, today announced that it has shipped the 50,000th Total Access 5000 (TA5000), making it the most widely deployed multi-service access node (MSAN) in North America. The TA5000 features the broadest range of multi-service capabilities in the market today, including Gigabit delivery over fiber, high-speed Internet over copper, mobile backhaul and advanced Carrier Ethernet services. It is used by over 50 percent of the top 100 U.S. network operators, including the seven largest providers that together represent over 90 percent of total telco-delivered broadband lines in the country.

“As a key element in our Ethernet services network, the TA5000 has proven that it is able to withstand the increasing bandwidth demands of our customers. The scalability and flexibility of the multi-services access platform across our copper and fiber-based access methods ensures that our initial network investment can continue to grow with our customer service offerings,” said Eric Proulx, vice president of network planning & engineering at FairPoint Communications, Inc. “In an industry where the next best thing in Ethernet service delivery across access mediums is just around the corner, ADTRAN has continued to work with service providers on new protocols and access delivery methods to ensure that the TA5000 is capable of allowing us to meet and exceed our customers’ demands.”

With ADTRAN’s new multi-terabit, non-blocking backplane and Mosaic Cloud Platform coupled with NG-PON2 and XGS-PON technologies, carriers are now able to economically move broadband services to the mass market. The addition of NG-PON and XGS-PON to the TA5000 line-up extends its position as the most versatile fiber system on the market. The TA5000 also supports current and emerging copper access solutions such as Vectored VDSL2, Super-Vectoring and Carrier Ethernet, ensuring that any carrier can deliver the broadest range of high-bandwidth services to all subscribers anywhere on the network. In addition to traditional incumbent and competitive local exchange carriers (CLEC), the TA5000 has been the top access platform of choice for CAF II providers and the growing number of non-traditional carriers including multiple system operators (MSOs), land developers, utilities and more.

“The TA5000 has been a cornerstone multi-service access platform for over a decade because it was designed to help carriers expand the range and reach of their services by providing the flexibility to grow, scale and evolve their service portfolios,” said Mitch Fleming, vice president of carrier sales, ADTRAN. “With the TA5000’s widespread popularity across all kinds of carriers in the U.S. and its future-oriented capabilities, it continues to demonstrate its role in helping our customers meet their network goals and objectives, both today and tomorrow.”

Future plans for the TA5000 include adding 100G interfaces on a new switch fabric, the SM200. This addition will enable the TA5000 to deliver 100G network uplinks and transport to support carriers’ moves to higher access speeds, broader ranges of high-capacity services and richer mixes of business and residential offerings.

The TA5000 plays a critical role in ADTRAN’s Enabling Communities, Connecting Lives program. The program showcases service providers that are going above and beyond to cultivate change in their local communities by delivering Gigabit broadband to local businesses and residents across the country.
