Telefonica is focused on three areas for its network transformation: technology, systems and culture. SDN and NFV are driving the technology side, legacy OSS and BSS are being integrated on a systems level, the impact of technology-based change on the culture of the company is also a high priority for the telco. Driving a lot of this change, though, is the Internet of Things, with its huge data requirements and resulting impact on network infrastructure. Also, NFV and SDN will have to be in place before 5G arrives from 2020.
