Early days: the move will need to be approved by regulators and the shareholders who, it's thought, might prefer alternative arrangements or a sale to the likes of Liberty Global.
The move, however, makes sense for Vodafone whose chief, Vittorio Colao has laid out the group's long-term strategy. Colao sees a triple play end-game for the big communications groups in Europe.
