NETGEAR selects Qualcomm to collaborate on world’s first tri-band distributed Wi-Fi system

Qualcomm Technologies 802.11ac and Wi-Fi SON Technologies are Integrated in Orbi Tri-band Wi-Fi System by NETGEAR

SAN DIEGO

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), has collaborated with NETGEAR to develop the new Orbi Tri-band Wi-Fi System by NETGEAR. Designed to deliver high-speed Wi-Fi in every corner of the home, the Orbi Tri-band Wi-Fi System is the first commercially announced mesh Wi-Fi system to utilize QTI’s tri-radio 802.11ac chipsets, and the full suite of Wi-Fi Self-Organizing Network (SON) technologies designed to offer unprecedented Wi-Fi performance and simplicity.

“Qualcomm Technologies and NETGEAR are working together to solve some of the most complex challenges that exist with today’s increasingly crowded Wi-Fi networks,” said Gopi Sirineni, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Orbi is a prime example of this collaboration. We expect the unique combination of NETGEAR expertise in Tri-band Wi-Fi systems, and QTI’s Wi-Fi SON technology, to deliver faster, simpler and improved reliability for people with large-sized homes or challenging architecture.”

“NETGEAR has a long standing relationship with Qualcomm Technologies for technology solutions that help to deliver high-quality Wi-Fi connectivity for our customers,” said David Henry, senior vice president of home networking at NETGEAR. “Qualcomm Technologies’ Tri-radio chipset, in conjunction with MU-MIMO and Wi-Fi SON, is an essential component to enabling Orbi to provide faster, smarter, more secure Wi-Fi to our customers around the world.”

The Orbi Tri-band Wi-Fi System was built via the collaboration between NETGEAR and QTI. QTI’s tri-band Wi-Fi chipset utilizes three Wi-Fi radios to create a dedicated wireless backhaul connection between the Orbi Router and Orbi Satellites. The system also leverages QTI’s Wi-Fi SON software to help simplify the Wi-Fi set up process and to optimize the network to eliminate congestion, bottlenecks and dead zones. The combination of QTI and NETGEAR technology has resulted in high-performance Wi-Fi in virtually every corner of the home.
