BroadSoft and OpenPeak claim first ‘dual persona’ for UC

Ian Scales
By Ian Scales

Mar 7, 2014

A final story in the wake of MWC 2014: BroadSoft and OpenPeak together announced what they claim is the first ‘dual persona’ solution for unified communications (UC). The background to this is really the rise of BYOD (bring your own device) to work and one answer to the question: how do organisations with a stiff security requirement make sure they can provide a corporate mobile experience while still leaving some personal space on the device for users to download their own apps and communicate without compromising security.

Dual Persona for UC integrates BroadSoft’s IC-One platform and OpenPeak’s SECTOR security ‘container’. This allows users to get into their UC apps - voice and vide calling, texting, instant messaging, presence and corporate directories - on the ‘work’ side of their devices via the security container which offers password protection and encrypted enterprise data. The ‘personal’ side of their phone remains their own private space.

It means, the companies claim, that enterprises can support BYOD and enable employees to use their preferred personal device to work while keeping the enterprise information secure.

BroadSoft suggests the package can be a profitable up-sell for mobile operators, since it means being able to levy a dual subscription on the one device while at the same time creating a ‘sticky’ subscriber reluctant to move because they’ve linked the two subscriptions.
