Innovative solution for faster internet in rural areas more widely available

Via KPN

Oct 29, 2018

KPN’s innovative solution for faster internet in rural areas is now more widely available. By combining the fixed network with the mobile 4G network, KPN customers living in rural areas can get much greater internet speeds. The fixed/mobile broadband connection uses the fixed network (DSL) as the basis. The mobile network (4G) is added as an accelerator through the use of smart technologies.

“From now on we can give a large number of our customers in rural areas a comfortable internet experience,” says Joost Farwerck, COO and member of the Board of Management of KPN. “Thanks to innovative technology whereby we get our fixed and mobile networks work in tandem, customers get much greater download speeds.”

KPN customers in rural areas are eligible for "Sneller Internet Buitengebied" if their current internet speed is lower than 15 Mbps. The service is free of charge as a supplement to the existing internet subscription. A postcode checker on kpn.com/buitengebied can be used to see whether the product is available at the address concerned.

KPN has tested “Sneller Internet Buitengebied" extensively, initially around Nijkerk, and about 10,000 KPN customers are already making use of this technology every day.
