Huawei launches the first commercial symmetric 10G GPON solution, bringing gigabit access to enterprises

Via Huawei Corporate News

Sep 20, 2016

[Shenzhen, China, September 20, 2016] Huawei has released the industry's first commercial symmetric 10G GPON (also called XGS-PON) solution. The solution demonstrates the maturity of Huawei's symmetrical XGS-PON technology, which helps upgrade enterprise private networks to gigabit access networks.

The E2E XGS-PON solution released by Huawei for enterprise private lines is mainly comprised of Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Unit (ONU) products.

At the central office (CO) end, Huawei provides the next-generation distributed smart OLT MA5800. It uses XGS-PON boards to provide 10 Gbit/s symmetric upstream and downstream bandwidth per port. Furthermore, it is compatible with asymmetric 10G GPON terminals. When operators want to simplify the network structure and use uniform devices at the CO end, they may deploy only XGS-PON in the CO equipment room while deploying asymmetric terminals and symmetric terminals at the user end for home users and enterprise private line users, respectively.

At the user end, Huawei provides a box-style and board-mountable ONU with upstream XGS-PON ports. It can be configured with GE and POTS ports according to the customer's needs to support gigabit access in private line scenarios. For high-end home users, Huawei provides a special ONT that possesses XGS-PON, GE, and POTS ports and supports dual-band Wi-Fi for gigabit home networks in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) scenarios.

With its extensive technical experience, repeated investments, and numerous innovations in the PON domain, Huawei actively participates in the drafting of international standards. Huawei contributes to drafts and provides Presidents, board members, and primary editors of PON standard organizations such as ITU-T, IEEE, and BBF, contributing immensely to the research and formulation of PON standards.

On the brink of the gigabit ultra-broadband era, Huawei has led the launch of the commercial XGS-PON solution based on a thorough understanding of customer demands. Huawei has tested the solution with leading operators in China, South Korea, and Europe, helping operators build premium gigabit enterprise private networks and achieve business success.
