Video represents over 50% of mobile data traffic and is the fastest growing service with a year-over-year growth rate of over 75%. Detecting, measuring and charging for mobile video services is an emerging challenge that network operators are ill-equipped to address.
TelecomTV asked members of the public whether they would prefer to be charged for watching mobile video in minutes or megabytes. The results show that the majority of users have no clue how many megabytes a typical video is. According to Mate Prgin, President & CEO at Avvasi, MNO’s need to start separating video from the rest of the data traffic and charge it in a manner that is easy to understand – per minute, rather than per megabyte.
