James Pearce, TelecomTV (00:05):
Hello and welcome to TelecomTV. I'm James Pearce. I'm in Amsterdam for CASA26, and I'm delighted to be joined today by Otilia Anton from Orange, who is director of Orange LiveNet and Network APIs. Thank you so much for joining us today. Perhaps we could start by getting you to give a rundown for our audience as to what Orange LiveNet actually is.

Otilia Anton, Orange (00:26):
Thank you for having me today. I'm Otilia Anton, leading Orange LiveNet business unit at Orange, which is the network API business unit we created to power network API exposure and monetisation, meaning that we have end-to-end abilities in terms of product development, tech, and go-to-market scale for Orange in order to make network APIs accessible throughout our footprint.

James Pearce, TelecomTV (00:52):
So what exactly is it that Orange is trying to achieve with LiveNet and how does it change the way enterprises and developers interact with the network?

Otilia Anton, Orange (01:00):
Through Orange LiveNet, Orange is giving high scale access to its network API capabilities. This is changing the way we interact with enterprise and partners because we provide a consistent, seamless experience to network APIs on several domains from identity, anti-fraud, network analytics, network performance. And by giving access to several key partners such as Aduna, Nokia Network as Code, working with key developer marketplaces such as Google Firebase, really brings a whole new scale towards network APIs capabilities where developers are. So our purpose is to make network APIs as easy to consume as other capabilities on developer platforms for this to blend perfectly in. So we count on key partnerships to make that happen, and as well, we work with specialised partners in order to make more advanced proposals tailored for specific industries. One example being of course in the space of identity and age verification for instance.

(02:11):
And we hope that this will power new enterprise applications and that it will make it easier for consumptions. We already see benefits on its own financial services sector and we are working with additional industry sectors such as transportation, manufacturing to bring these advanced capabilities in the regular business processes in these domains.

James Pearce, TelecomTV (02:36):
Let's talk about those capabilities a little bit. Which of the capabilities do you believe have the greatest potential to become commercially successful?

Otilia Anton, Orange (02:44):
I think that with network APIs, there's definitely the opportunity for the telcos to become part of the trust layer of the digital economy. So more specifically APIs around identity and anti-fraud are powering that enablement and that can be addressed for financial services as well as for e-commerce and any platform that needs to do KYC and needs to check out that there's no account takeover or impersonation taking place on their platform. So there is a tremendous potential in that area as well as network advanced capabilities. In that sense, it's how can we empower new digital services that make network-aware applications? If there is a mission-critical application or that applications that only need a high consumption at a specific moment in time, there the kind of capabilities like quality on demand will play a key role in fine-tuning that application performance.

James Pearce, TelecomTV (03:50):
Let's talk a little bit about AI now because obviously it's a really hot topic in the industry. Does AI make network APIs more valuable by enabling applications and AI agents to consume network capabilities dynamically?

Otilia Anton, Orange (04:05):
The adoption of agentic flows has been increasing highly on the market and we see that in our day-to-day life. So we expect that also to have a strong impact in the way in which developers build their new applications tomorrow. So that is why at Orange, with Orange LiveNet, we are already looking into how we make our network APIs usable in agentic flows. How do we make them ready for agents? And with all that entails, so from security, identity, access, in order to take full benefit of autonomous usage. And we believe that this will be a new consumption model. So I would say we're at the beginning of this story with the intention clearly to make the network APIs a key element in this domain. I would add that with network APIs being related to physical elements where user is the knowledge of its device, of its connectivity, of its SIM and KYC elements, that gives operators a clear edge in bringing physical proof into the AI world and that will power and secure new applications tomorrow.

(05:26):
So I definitely believe there is a space for growth in this domain there.

James Pearce, TelecomTV (05:30):
It sounds like a really exciting time. Thank you so much for joining us today on TelecomTV.

Otilia Anton, Orange (05:34):
Thank you so much, James.
