Telia Company will modernize its Norwegian mobile network and gradually introduce 5G-coverage in partnership with Ericsson. By doing this, Telia Company secures future superior networks for Norwegian customers and strengthens the company’s position as a forerunner in 5G in the Nordics and Baltics.

Beginning next year, Telia Company will start to upgrade its award winning 2G- and 4G-networks to continue to offer Norwegians the best possible coverage in the country with the highest data speeds. The modernization will be carried through gradually over four years. Telia will over time introduce 5G-services in the country, beginning in the enterprise sector with a business case driven approach.

“We look forward to working with our long-time technology partner Ericsson in digitalizing the Norwegian society further by bringing 5G to Norway. Together with our customers, we will explore opportunities and innovate new services which will strengthen the 5G business case even further” says Christian Luiga, acting President and CEO of Telia Company. “5G is not only about building a new network but also about building a new way of thinking and perceiving what a mobile network can be and can do. High speed, low latency, guaranteed capacity and truly mobile is going to push the boundaries of digitalization.”

In June 2019 Telia Company secured access to 2x10 MHz in the 700 MHz band which will be a key enabler for roll-out of 5G in Norway. The band will be available from November 1, 2019.
