Industry-leading Qualcomm Snapdragon LTE Modems Power 4G LTE available on Windows 10 mobile computing devices

SAN DIEGO

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) through its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., today announced that it is extending its LTE modem technology leadership to provide fast and reliable cellular connectivity in the next generation of Windows 10 notebooks and tablets for consumers, and enterprise customers. Embedded Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X12, X7 and X5 LTE modems will support a range of connected user experiences in upcoming Windows 10 notebooks, 2-in-1s and tablets later this year.

Compatible with the native Mobile Broadband Interface Model (MBIM) in Windows 10, embedded Snapdragon LTE modems are designed to provide similar mobility experiences on PCs that are found in smartphones. Enterprise users are now increasingly using embedded LTE and location capabilities to enhance security and productivity with new flexible data plans that enable remote data wipe, sponsored connectivity, and pay-as-you-go mobile broadband service on operator networks around the world.

LTE connectivity is being adopted in Windows 10 devices produced by numerous original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) around the world, including Dell, HP, Lenovo and Panasonic. Additionally, Snapdragon LTE embedded modules are available from Foxconn and Sierra Wireless, to name a few.

“Incorporating Qualcomm Technologies’ fast reliable cellular connectivity to Windows 10 devices will create an enhanced rich mobile experience allowing users the capability to load web pages, video conference, stream videos faster and more with greater quality,” said Chris Morrissey, director of business planning, Microsoft. “Combining the two technologies allows Enterprise customers to tap into a new level of productivity and efficiency from their Windows 10 PCs.”

“LTE takes modern connectivity to a whole new level of user capability,” said Brand Cheng, senior vice president, Foxconn. “With the higher echelon of throughput this technology provides, our opportunities are becoming truly limitless.”

“LTE Advanced technology is growing in importance for both consumers and business users of the more than 80 networks around the world that have upgraded to support the significantly faster network speeds LTE Advanced provides,” said Dan Schieler, senior vice president, OEM Solutions, Sierra Wireless. “Using a Snapdragon X7 LTE modem, we are enabling LTE Advanced on the latest version of the most popular operating system worldwide, its benefits will continue to be seen by an increasing number of people in every corner of the globe.”

“As adoption of Windows 10 continues to grow at an exponential pace, it's increasingly clear that users will settle for nothing less than a superior enterprise-class, mobile first experience,” said Fram Akiki, senior director of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The Snapdragon LTE modem family provides a range of productivity services to IT managers and mobile workforce for cloud based data, applications and analytics through a secure and reliable connection.”

To deliver smartphone connectivity to the PC industry, Qualcomm Technologies offers a broad portfolio of discrete LTE modems across multiple classes for integration into enterprise-class mobile devices. These are the same trusted Snapdragon LTE modems used in a number of smartphones and other mobile devices commercially available today. Windows 10-compatible

LTE modems include:

  • Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem

  • An LTE Category 12 modem in the downlink and Category 13 in the uplink that supports download speeds of up to 600 Mbps through 3x downlink Carrier Aggregation (CA) and 256-QAM, as well as upload speeds of up to 150 Mbps through 2x CA and 64-QAM.

  • Snapdragon X7 LTE Modem

  • An LTE Category 6 modem that supports download speeds of up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps, with support for 2x20 MHz downlink Carrier Aggregation (CA) for both LTE TDD and FDD global CA deployments.

  • Snapdragon X5 LTE Modem

  • An LTE Category 4 modem that supports download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps in the uplink, with support for 2x10MHz downlink Carrier Aggregation (CA).

As LTE Advanced continues to evolve and spread, the range of capabilities for consumers and enterprise users expands to new categories, such as the Internet of Everything, wearables, connected car, healthcare, smart cities and object tracking. Qualcomm Technologies continues to be a leader in driving the commercialization of faster downloads, speedy application performance, improved power efficiency and reliable connectivity across greater coverage areas.
