Orange launches industry’s first ‘own-branded’ 5G smartphone in Europe – the Orange Neva jet

  • New smartphone kick-starts Orange’s journey to prepare its customers for the arrival of 5G
  • Orange also launches new ‘Neva’ range of Orange branded devices, delivering rich experience tailored to various customer needs

Orange today announces the launch of the industry’s first operator-branded 5G smartphone in Europe, delivering a high-quality device, tested on its 5G networks for early adopters. The smartphone will initially be available on existing networks (3G, 4G, 4G+) in select markets in 2019, starting with Poland. It will then be available on Orange’s commercial 5G networks across Europe as they go live, starting with Romania¹ in 2019 and followed by its other European markets in 2020.

At the same time, Orange announces a new range of Orange branded smartphones across six European markets including France, Spain, Romania, Poland, Slovakia and Moldova that Orange is present in. The fully re-designed range of ‘Neva’ smartphones aims to deliver a rich experience, meeting a variety of customer usages, with special benefits tailored for each member of the family. Design, performance, safety and reliability are the key pillars of the Neva range. The range includes the Neva start, Neva play, Neva zen and Neva link, available on existing networks. Further own-branded 5G smartphones will be added to the range in 2020.

The smartphone has been an integral part of the recent 5G trials² in Poland, allowing consumers to experience the future of what 5G will deliver in 2020. Customers in Poland will be able to purchase the Neva jet on existing networks by the end of the year. The Neva jet will also be available on Orange Romania’s 5G network by the end of 2019.

Underpinning this, is the Neva jet’s high-level of specification - 6.47 inch borderless screen with full HD+ definition; device-integrated AI which utilises artificial intelligence to manage files, photos and much more; facial recognition and in-display fingerprint; as well as a triple camera (48MP wide-angle, 20MP ultrawide-angle and 8MP telephoto lens). The smartphone will use Android Pie OS software.

The slender and high-spec smartphone, offers a welcome alternative on the market, delivering assurance that it is compatible with Orange’s 5G network when they are switched on, delivering all the benefits of 5G – with its rapid download speeds of theoretical maximum throughput of 2 Gbps (depending on market), and high-data capacity making services like Virtual Reality, real-time video streaming and gaming fast and smooth. The arrival of the Neva jet, at a more accessible price, means that many more people will have access to this greatly enhanced mobile experience.

With its premium and ergonomic design the Neva jet also comes with the ‘Orange Experience’ allowing customers to tailor the content to their needs thanks to Livescreen which aggregates various streaming, news and entertainment partners. The Orange Experience, adapted to each Neva smartphone also enables the Orange App Center to make recommendations for relevant apps including access to Orange apps such as Orange Bank, the first 100% mobile bank, or Orange TV to enjoy live or on-demand TV. It also gives access to dedicated offers for each Neva device. These may include free trials of Orange’s mobile gaming service on the Neva play in certain countries; a 30 free photo prints through the Cheerz app on Neva zen; or full security protection with Lookout on Neva Jet.

Moreover, the Orange Phone app, pre-loaded in all Neva smartphones allows customers to enhance their calling experience with smart features like anti-spam, call blocking, or reverse directory. Additionally, the range features a sleek new understated branding, subtly showing that it is ‘powered by Orange’, delivering customers the reassurance of quality that comes with Orange products and services.

The new range of own-branded smartphones seeks to deliver high-quality devices using cutting-edge technology at accessible prices to allow more people than ever to enjoy the latest digital innovations. Orange first launched Orange branded devices in 2002 and has sold over 12 million devices across Europe alone. It has contributed to the company’s long-held promise to deliver high-quality and accessible handsets delivering the latest technology.

Philippe Lucas, Senior Vice President, Customer Equipment and Partnerships at Orange, commented, “As we gear up to launch our 5G networks in 2020, the Orange Neva jet is testimony to our long-held promise to deliver the very best innovation and technology. This is the start of that journey as we prepare customers for the arrival of 5G.”
