GSMA, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and Deutsche Telekom Collaborate on 5G Innovation
3 March, Barcelona, and Hong Kong: The GSMA, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Deutsche Telekom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a 5G Innovation Accelerator. With 5G set to become a driver of economic growth across industries, the MoU will leverage access to existing incubator facilities and industry expertise at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Deutsche Telekom to supercharge 5G innovation in China. Consolidating resources from accelerator partners, the collaboration will pave the way for establishing the 5G Innovation Accelerator to specifically support research, events and dialogues, marketing, and the facilitation of the Innovation Accelerator Project. This package will enable accelerator camps, improved lab environments and showroom space, international exchange, and project cooperation. The Innovation Accelerator Project will also facilitate an innovation summit, business and investment matchings, and technology workshops and classes. “We’re delighted to have signed this MoU to support collaboration between the GSMA, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Deutsche Telekom. 5G is already transforming vertical industries and driving real, sustainable growth and innovation. Through this collaboration, we hope to bolster knowledge-sharing and unlock the full power of 5G,” said Alex Sinclair, Chief Technology Officer of GSMA. “As this important collaboration comes to life, we will collaborate with more and more partners to inspire greater implementations of 5G worldwide.” The overall implementation of the 5G Innovation Accelerator will be supported by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Deutsche Telekom, with a broader portfolio of ecosystem partners underpinning future projects. The 5G Innovation Accelerator will initially focus on furthering the industry’s common interests, exploring commercial opportunities on projects when appropriate in the future. Peter Mok, General Manager, Greater Bay Area of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, said. “The Greater Bay Area presents one of the greatest opportunities for innovation and economic growth in the region. Our model to help tech ventures capitalise upon this growth is to harness the unrivalled connectivity Hong Kong offers between mainland China and global markets, with our deep technology ecosystem supported by a network of leading universities and research institutes.
