Ericsson and M1 5G routers to enable a future-ready mobile transport network

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has been selected by leading Southeast Asia operator M1 as partner for modernizing its 4G /5G mobile transport network with the deployment of its high performing Ericsson Router 6676.

Router 6676 is a high-capacity cell site router, designed to enable high-quality network performance in advanced 4G and 5G networks. It will prepare M1 with future 5G requirements of transport networks, including additional capacity, scalability, and responsiveness with features such as segment routing and higher density of 25G ports with 100G capability.

The Router 6676 with its enhanced processing power is able to achieve fast convergence when there are disturbances in the transport network. With fast route learning, together with high scaling capability, Router 6676 will provide resiliency for 5G networks, especially with 5G increasingly being deployed in large enterprises such as airports, seaports and factories.

Mr Denis Seek, Chief Technical Officer, M1 said, ”We are excited to extend our partnership with Ericsson as we continue on this journey to modernize our 4G and 5G mobile transport network. With the new Router 6676, M1 is set to deliver higher quality network performance This is part of M1’s effort in driving our company-wide 5G goals."

Mika Heikkinen, Head of Product line Transport states, “M1’s overall objective is to deploy the latest technology in their network bringing in high capacities and significant performance improvements. Ericsson is please to extend its partnership with M1 in the world’s first deployment of Router 6676 which is an important step forward in their 5G agenda.”

The Router 6676 is part of the Ericsson Router 6000 Series, a radio access network (RAN) integrated and service provider SDN (Software Defined Networking)- enabled IP transport family of products.
