Zain submits formal bid for third mobile phone license in the Sultanate of Oman

Kuwait: May 2, 2017

Mobile Telecommunications Company K.S.C.P. (Zain) announced on Monday, May 1, 2017 that the company submitted a formal bid for the third mobile telecommunications license in Sultanate of Oman, in accordance with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) published Information Memorandum. The Oman TRA will announce the short list of qualified applicants on August 14, 2017, with the winning applicant set to be announced on September 4, 2017.

Bader Al Kharafi, Zain Vice-Chairman and Group CEO said,

“The bid included a comprehensive business, financial and technical plan as well as a commercial proposal for the third license. Zain considers the Omani telecom market a promising growth opportunity complementing our regional footprint. Should we be successful, I’m confident the Omani community would warmly welcome the Zain brand and the new mobile operation would be value accretive to Zain’s shareholders.”

Zain will announce any developments in this matter as they occur.
