T-Mobile quadruples binge on services, now over 100 video providers stream data-free

Via T-Mobile USA Newsroom

Jul 26, 2016

ABC, Apple Music, CEEK VR, D-PAN.TV, Disney, DramaFever, FOX NOW, FXNOW, Tubi TV and more join T-Mobile’s Binge On – quadrupling the number of services since launch just eight months ago!

Binge On providers report customers watch longer, visit more frequently and buy more subscriptions– as joining Binge On translates into big benefits for video companies of all sizes

Bellevue, Washington — July 26, 2016 —The Un-carrier smashed another major milestone today. In his latest video blog, T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) CEO and president John Legere just announced that Un-carrier customers can now stream video from more than 100 video services without ever touching their high-speed data with Binge On! That’s 4x more streaming providers than just eight months ago when Binge On debuted and sent shockwaves through the mobile industry. Today, ABC, Apple Music, Disney, DISH Anywhere, FOX NOW and NAT GEO TV, along with CEEK VR, D-PAN.TV – the sign language channel, DramaFever, Shalom World and others are joining the Un-carrier’s iconic video streaming initiative. And, as always, T-Mobile customers can still watch up to three-times longer on ALL other video services, making their high-speed data stretch even farther.

“Over 100 streaming services on board in just eight months and 765 MILLION hours of video streamed data-free so far. Binge On’s popularity with consumers and video providers is amazing!” said Legere. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it’s all about listening to your customers and doing what they want! So glad Dumb and Dumber keep getting it wrong!”

As of today, T-Mobile customers have already streamed more than 765 million hours of video data-free. That’s more than 87,000 years of back-to-back non-stop watching without eating up a single byte of high-speed data. And, that doesn’t even count the hundreds of millions of extra hours customers have watched because their high-speed data lasts up to three-times longer when streaming video with Binge On.

Of course, that translates into a big boost for Binge On services. Today, T-Mobile also published new data from a July survey of Binge On providers that underscores the big-time benefits video companies of all sizes are seeing with Binge On. 80% of those surveyed are seeing customers watch longer, watch more frequently or watch more on mobile phones. And, providers see deeper customer engagement ahead. Among providers who shared their insights:

  • 85% expect customers to watch longer,
  • 80% expect customers to watch more often, and
  • 45% of those with paid subscriptions, expect to sell more subscriptions because of Binge On.

Binge On is completely free to customers AND providers, so T-Mobile invites every streaming service to sign on. Joining couldn’t be more straightforward. In fact, 100% of existing providers surveyed reported that the technical requirements for joining Binge On were “straightforward and easy to comply with,” and 100% described joining Binge On as neutral or easy, with 79% saying it was “easy” or “very easy.”

It’s no wonder then that the ranks of Binge On services is skyrocketing. The full list of new providers joining Binge On today include:

  • ABC
  • Apple Music
  • Big Ten Network
  • CEEK VR

  • DISH Anywhere

  • Disney Channel
  • Disney Jr.
  • Disney XD

  • D-PAN.TV

  • DramaFever
  • FOX NOW
  • FXNOW

  • NAT GEO TV

  • Shalom World
  • Sioeye
  • Tubi TV

What Binge On Providers Have to Say Many of the smaller video providers rave about Binge On and what it means for their business:

“We want our programming and the opportunity to watch the programming easily in front of as many people as possible. Binge On removes one of the significant negative barriers everyone encounters when viewing video on their mobile devices – ‘How much of my data plan is this going to chew up?’ Since joining Binge On, we’ve seen twice the flow of new T-Mobile customers coming to the app and spending twice as long than the customers of the carriers.” -- David Moffly, CEO, Baeble Media

“The Binge On program is exceptional in easing the burden on families by allowing them to stream favorite programming without impacting their data caps. This is important to us because we want our families to be able to use Kidoodle.TV wherever and whenever they need it, including on the road or at the doctor’s office where Wi-Fi might not be available. T-Mobile consistently impresses us with its consumer-facing initiatives designed to provide more value for consumers without eating into their pocketbooks.” -- Michael Lowe, President of A Parent Media Co. Inc.

“People stream so much more video to their phones these days and it’s no surprise that data overages are going through the roof as a result. It means a lot for Great Big Story to be a part of T-Mobile’s Binge On program because we know that people can enjoy our content from anywhere without worrying about exceeding their service plan.” -- Rob Sands, Head of Distribution and Partnerships, Great Big Story

“Our T-Mobile streamers are now spending double the amount of time across our platforms since we implemented Binge On. More time means more opportunity to bring the seamless Korean streaming experience right into the mobile world!” -- Kate Yoon, Marketing Engineer, OnDemandKorea

“OWNZONES has seen our T-Mobile users increase by 58% since we announced our partnership with Binge On. They are viewing 74% more, and the top video views have been to our How To channels. The most popular channel is Dance Classes with Chloe Lukasiak, the former star of the hit Lifetime series ‘Dance Moms.’” -- Dan Goman, Founder and CEO at OwnZones Media Network

“Being a part of Binge On means Toon Goggles gets to give parents the best gift of the summer—entertaining, fun animation for their kids without limits on data usage. To Toon Goggles, Binge On is a way for us to show off our premium kids' shows and games to T-Mobile customers that may not have otherwise looked to us for their entertainment needs due to fear of data usage. Now, even our littlest fans love that they can watch ALL the episodes of their favorite cartoons, giving them full control over what they want to watch." -- Stephen L. Hodge, C.E.O. of Toon Goggles Inc.

Detectable video typically streams at DVD quality (480p or better) with Binge On unless video provider opts-out. You may disable Binge On at any time, but will lose benefits. Qualifying plan required; third party subscription/content charges may apply. Video streaming from participating services does not count toward full-speed data allotment while on our network. Extremely high data usage may result in de-prioritization (& slower speeds). See T-Mobile.com/OpenInternet.
