Orange continues deployment of its LoRa IoT network in France with some 1,300 towns now covered

Via Orange

Sep 20, 2016

Paris, Tuesday, September 20, 2016

With 18 urban areas* encompassing some 1,300 towns now able to use Orange’s LoRa® network, dedicated to the Internet of Things , the operator has exceeded its deployment goal for the first half of 2016.

Orange continues to deploy the network to support the projects of its enterprise and municipality customers and partners. By the end of January 2017, Orange’s LoRa® network will exist in 120 urban areas – approximately 2,600 towns – offering connectivity both indoors and outdoors.

The density of the network combined with the LoRa® connectivity services offered by Orange Business Services now enables the operator to support its customers’ projects based on objects or sensors with low power consumption.

Armed with its expertise in the Machine-to-Machine field, with more than 10 million objects in its fleet, Orange as an operator adapts its 2G and 4G cellular networks to the Internet of Things. For example, in parallel with the deployment of its dedicated LoRa® network, Orange has made a substantial contribution to international standards bodies for cellular networks. The goal is to meet all of its customers’ requirements by offering appropriate connectivity solutions (type of sensor, power connection, speed, coverage, etc.). In addition to IoT connectivity strong leadership with new dedicated LoRa network and 2G/4G existing cellular networks upgrades, Orange offers comprehensive services to its enterprise customers ranging from the collection of data from objects and sensors to their processing and delivery, through its Datavenue line of services.

For Orange, the Internet of Things is an area of diversification from which it expects to earn 600 million euros in revenues by 2018 under its Essentials2020 strategic plan.

*Angers, Avignon, Bordeaux, Douai and Lens, Grenoble, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nice, Orleans, Paris, Rennes, Rouen, Toulon, Toulouse and Strasbourg.

The list of urban areas will be covered in January 2017 is available from the Press Office.
