Mercedes Benz Superdome scores with network refresh from Avaya

Sports Complex Replaces Outdated Network Equipment, Cuts Maintenance Hours 20%

Santa Clara, Calif. - Dec. 12, 2016 - Turning in a consistent, quality performance on the field enables a select few professional and college level sports teams to vie for the championship trophy. The Mercedes Benz Superdome, which has seen many of these championship games, relies on the consistent, quality performance of Avaya Networking for the reliability that keeps all aspects of major events running smoothly and teams, fans and employees connected and safe.

SMG prides itself on its quality management services for its venues, including the Superdome in New Orleans. The Superdome complex consists of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints football team, as well as the Smoothie King Center and Champions Square. It hosts some of the largest sporting events in the United States, including the Super Bowl, College Football Championship, and the NCAA Final Four.

The Avaya Network replaced aging network technology that had been installed after Hurricane Katrina and was causing regular outages that hindered productivity. SMG selected Avaya Networking, making a smooth cutover to a more stable network just after the end of the football season and Mardi Gras festivities.

Immediately, users had the reliability and bandwidth needed to support the activities and applications the large venue required - with a significant reduction in the amount of time IT needed to devote to the management and maintenance of the network. The new network also improved the security system, which eliminated the need to regularly reboot video surveillance cameras. A dramatic, 90% decrease in reported incidents at the complex since the network was installed translates to safer employees and attendees.

The Avaya network as a foundation is giving SMG the opportunity to explore a host of options - including mobility and cloud-based applications - for improving the venue experience for employees and attendees alike.

Quote

“Everything is running exactly as it should. Everything improved. Network service is invisible, until it doesn’t work. The fact that no one mentions it because it works like it’s supposed to speaks volumes. If people aren’t noticing anything, it’s running exactly how I want it to.”

Matt Boyd, IT manager, SMG Managed Facilities
