Sector study of MSM Research and Brocade uncovers IoT’s game-changing impact on the Swiss ICT market
Munich-15 September 2016- Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) and MSM Research AG today released the results of a study conducted with Swisscom and other leading companies on the current status of the Swiss ICT market. The focus of the survey was the disruptive impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its role as a game changer and key driver for growth. The survey addressed several questions, such as how far along is the Swiss market when it comes to IoT? How do Swiss companies intend to capitalize on the immense potential of IoT? What challenges and obstacles do they see?
To answer these questions, 127 small and medium sized companies and large enterprises in the telecommunications, traffic, and transport industries—as well as public administration, retail, finance, and insurance organizations—participated in the survey from March to May 2016.
Digitization and IoT to trigger tectonic shifts in the market
IoT has turned the world of traditional business models upside down. Many new market opportunities and competitive advantages have materialized. In fact, companies expect to significantly enhance competitiveness thanks to IoT and Big Data solutions: 47 percent of the respondents are expecting an increase in their agility and ability to react to market changes. However, many decision-makers still hesitate: 53 percent of the respondents stated they would prefer to observe how the situation evolves as the impact on the business cannot be anticipated.
This is likely to prove wrong, says Philipp A. Ziegler, CEO of MSM Research AG :
“In the coming years, digitization and Internet of Things will trigger tectonic shifts in the market, which any organization can hardly escape. Strategically, it would be naive not to acknowledge the signs of the times as well as future potentials and market opportunities, and to thereby run the risk of being left behind.”
Spending on cloud computing increased by over 30 percent
Besides IoT, cloud computing is one of the key drivers for the Swiss ICT market. Spending on cloud computing services increased by more than 30 percent to 1.7 billion CHF in 2016. Against this backdrop, the data center forms the basis for public and private cloud infrastructures (internal or external). According to the survey, every fourth Franc is spent on data center infrastructure. Both the availability of cloud applications and the real-time provisioning of all relevant information depend on the network. New IP solutions offer companies a modern network platform, providing the agility to efficiently drive cloud and IoT initiatives. Open interfaces transform New IP networks into platforms for business innovation, enabling organizations to orchestrate and automate their networks along the entire supply chain while ensuring flexibility and control.
“The survey of MSM Research AG provides us with valuable insights and confirms the high demand for sustainable networking solutions in the Swiss market,” said Thomas Langkjaer, Director Sales EMEA East at Brocade. “With our New IP networking solutions, Brocade responds to these needs and enables Swiss companies to implement their digitization initiatives.”
