Altice Labs, an innovation company of the Altice Group, has developed an innovative equipment, the new Fiber Gateway 4x4, supported by the research and dynamism of the fiber optic networks development direction.

Besides the delivery of traditional services of voice, data and TV, this equipment also reaches speeds up to 1.73 Gbps in the Wi-Fi connection (5GHz). This equipment will provide a new and enriching experience to the end user, especially MEO customers in Portugal.

In addition to a better Wi-Fi coverage, the Fiber Gateway 4x4 also offers up to 10 times faster access speeds, providing high performance levels for a wider set of simultaneous connections (MIMO 4x4 technology).

In short, this new solution will deliver to the customer:

  • A single equipment for the internet;
  • 10x faster and better Wi-Fi and greater Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house;
  • Maximum speed with multiple devices connected simultaneously;
  • Developed and produced in Portugal (Altice Labs).

At the launch of the new Fiber Gateway, Alexandre Fonseca, PT's CTO, did not miss the opportunity to praise the fact that this equipment was entirely made in Portugal, namely at Altice Labs in Aveiro,

" ... with the exception of the CPU, everything was designed, developed and produced in Portugal by portuguese engineers” and added: " Even the plastic filling of the box was produced by a company from the centre of the country ".

The Fiber Gateway was introduced to the public one day after receiving the Wi-Fi Alliance certification. The main differentiating feature of the equipment is that it uses the 802.11 ac Wave2 standard for the first time, which allows a significant increase in the bandwidth of Wi-Fi networks.

In addition to these new features, there is also the inclusion of four antennas operating at 5 GHz and that are capable of simultaneously communicating with four devices. The Fiber Gateway processor is also prepared for increased power, which will allow the Wi-Fi signal to go further and overcome previous barriers.

" We continue to lead in technological innovation and we have technology made in Portugal to reach the four corners of the world with intellectual capital and portuguese engineering. And the Fiber Gateway, which we present today at first hand, is the result of this engineering and the high quality of the work developed in Portugal in technological terms ", concluded Alexandre Fonseca.
