Coriant Transcend™ SDN Packet Controller Demonstrates Rapid Service Activation and Improved End-to-End Efficiencies in Live Statewide Network Trial

Download PDF Version

NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 22 November 2016 – Coriant, a global supplier of metro-to-core packet optical networking solutions, and Agile Networks (Agile), the premier provider of mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure, today announced successful demonstration of rapid service activation and automated traffic optimization using multi-layer Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology. The field trial was conducted on The Agile Network in Ohio using the Coriant Transcend™ SDN Packet Controller, which enables more dynamic and efficient mode of operations in IP/MPLS networks while reducing network costs and complexity.

Leveraging standards-based interfaces (RESTCONF/YANG) for seamless interoperability, the live field trial included demonstration of automated service provisioning (Ethernet, IP VPN) via a web-based service portal and context-aware routing capabilities that enhance multi-layer traffic engineering and optimization.

"As we continue to increase connectivity in Ohio and expand our network into additional states, multi-layer SDN automation and control promises to significantly enhance our ability to accelerate service deployment and maximize end-to-end network efficiencies," said Kyle Quillen, Chief Technology Officer, Agile Networks. "We were extremely pleased with the results of the trial and the performance of the Coriant Transcend™ SDN Packet Controller."

With a history of success in working with the public and private sectors to increase broadband availability in rural and urban areas, Agile recently announced plans for network expansion in the state of Indiana. The Agile Network in Ohio brings together the best in fiber optic and wireless technologies and is powered by the Coriant® 8600 Smart Router Series and Coriant® 8000 Intelligent Network Manager (INM).

"Coriant is committed to helping Agile deliver best-in-class broadband services in its existing and new markets," said Joe Shilgalis, Regional Vice President, North America, Coriant. "Our open and programmable SDN solution is a powerful tool that paves the way for enhanced utilization of Agile's communications assets."

Designed to support multi-vendor, orchestrator-agnostic SDN implementations in optical transport and packet networking environments, the Coriant Transcend™ SDN software suite enables operators to reduce network costs and address operational challenges driven by growth in high-bandwidth video, mobile, and cloud applications.
