Adopting virtualisation and chasing cloud-scale practices represents a major shift for CSPs, so we asked speakers at the event whether or not they thought this is beyond the ability of CSPs?
It's a real challenge for CSPs to learn the cloud-scale world and understand its practices and it is becoming apparent that they're finding it hard to attract the necessary talent, given that there is a shortage of people that understand cloud and write cloud-native software. So has the early promise of NFV delivered what was originally expected or hoped for? And if it hasn't, does this mean that CSPs' transformational efforts are too little and too late? Or did we just under-estimate how long it would take to reposition them to become more competitive? After all, CSPs need the scale that the cloud providers can offer, so as the barriers between compute and network become narrower perhaps it's time CSPs recognised that they don't need to do it all themselves. Perhaps it's more about finding the right relationships and trusted partners?
