Justin Paul, Head of NFV & OSS Marketing, Amdocs

The exponential growth of video traffic across transformed virtualised communications networks is one of the most compelling cases for SDN and NFV, as new and recently-published research from Amdocs shows. “Over the top” providers such as Netflix understand the value of the cloud and have already exploited it to their advantage. However, too many of today's transport networks remain 'also-rans' when compared to the new reality of the cloud-based world. It's a truism that all networks will have to become as agile as the services that are now being deployed on some of them, but it's easier said than done and any suggestion that a network may not be able to cope with the amounts of video traffic thrown at it could well be the kiss of death for some CSPs.
