Five years is not a long time in telecoms technology, Eric tells Martyn Warwick, so it’s a cause for celebration that the tech is already quite mature. Starting with no IT skills or mindset on the network side and no common language, telecoms learnt how to work with the open source community. That said there is still a lot of work to do... in particular network automation which ironically is going to require more highly-trained people who know enough to trouble-shoot what will be incredibly complex systems (until, presumably, they are intelligent enough to troubleshoot themselves).
